AboutThis is a work-in-progress version of Dead Tech T-Shirts, last updated June 2026.

Dead Tech T-Shirts is a digital, visual storytelling project that chronicles the boom-and-bust cycles of US techno-cultures. Documenting the discarded merchandise of shuttered technology companies, it provides a material history of companies that otherwise disappear from public conversation. This project surfaces these artifacts as a means of displaying a less visible shadow history of technology cultures, one of shutdowns, breakdown and failure. As a documentary project about cultural artifacts that seem incidental, Dead Tech T-Shirts also attempts to playfully question, and reorient, normative visions of the history of computing technology that typically center individuals, technical achievements, and narratives of growth.
